When my clients reached out to me, they were looking to update their kitchen. Their house was divided into three closed off formal living areas and wanted to see what was possible.
When I walked into the space, I immediately knew we could open it up to create one large entertaining and family hang out space. This would allow them to host friends and have the large family gatherings she was dreaming about!
The first thing we did was work to combine all three rooms into one. We also moved the door to the garage down so we could have one long wall for cabinets and appliances.
By combining these spaces, we made sure that the kitchen felt like the heart of the home. Now it’s ready for cooking, eating together as a family, and entertaining.
The best part is, no one is left out because they all have a space in the kitchen. My clients teenage daughter even said she loves hanging out in the kitchen with her friends baking cookies!
My client, like so many of us, also does not like corner cabinets. You know the one where you shove a bunch of stuff into never to be seen again? So in this kitchen, I eliminated the corner cabinet and instead installed some shelves so she could have easy access to her cookbooks.
This house also had a beautiful bay window and we wanted to take advantage of being able to have a comfortable seating area where you can sit down in the morning and have a cup of coffee.
That left us enough space to have a dining room table large enough to seat her family for Thanksgiving dinner. The new space is now both functional and large enough to host family and friends for football games, holidays, or just because!
